New Beginnings Counseling Center is a mental health services provider serving the Northern California region.

 

We specialize in offering comprehensive counseling and therapeutic support to individuals, couples, families, and groups and focus on helping clients navigate various challenges, such as relationships, family dynamics, mental health conditions, personality disorders, and legal issues.

Mission: The mission of New Beginnings Counseling Center is to support clients in building healthy and lasting relationships, developing effective communication and life skills, processing difficult emotions and experiences, and fostering personal growth. We strive to provide both long-term and short-term solution-focused interventions to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

Locations: Multiple locations across Northern California, including offices in Chico, Oroville, Auburn, Marysville, and Orland. These strategically located offices enable us to serve a wide range of communities within the North State region.

Staff and Expertise: Clinical team of licensed therapists and registered associates who are highly dedicated to providing exceptional mental health services.

 

Staff are well-versed in forensic mental health, trauma counseling, and substance abuse treatment. They work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including the County Probation Office, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Superior Court of California, the United States Probation Office, defense attorneys, and health insurance providers.

Clinical Director

Heather Slocum, LMFT

As the Clinical Director of New Beginnings, Heather Slocum, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, brings a wealth of experience in trauma-informed therapy to her role.

 

With years of EMDR training, Heather utilizes EMDR interventions and an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach in her work with clients.

 

Her expertise includes trauma victims of all ages, PTSD, secondary trauma, and developmental trauma. Providing supervision and training to Associates working towards LMFT, LCSW, and LPCC licensure.

 

Heather is a certified supervisor by CAMFT. Since 2009, she has supported voluntary and mandated clients in their journey towards healing.

 

Outside of work, Heather enjoys spending time outdoors and cherishing moments with family and friends.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Jacob Durant, LMFT

As Clinical Coordinator II in the Marysville and Auburn areas, Jacob Durant is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who embraces a solutions-focused approach to counseling.

 

Drawing from cognitive, motivational interviewing, narrative, and somatic therapeutic interventions, Jacob creates a safe and nonjudgmental space for individuals and couples facing various challenges.

 

His compassionate work spans from helping teenagers to supporting individuals navigating the complexities of life's end. Jacob, a California State University, Chico graduate, is passionate about guiding clients towards positive changes and a more fulfilled life.

 

He finds solace in nature, cherishing the unique moments the natural world has to offer.

County Court Coordinator

Stephanie Singh

Stephanie graduated from California State University Stanislaus with a degree in psychology and

criminal justice.

 

A longtime Butte County resident, she has a long history of public service in education, criminal justice, court-ordered services, and mental health.

 

She is passionate about community safety, diversity and inclusion, and supporting vulnerable populations.

 

She specializes in evidence-based treatment practices for domestic violence, child abuse/child endangerment, and anger management.

 

In her spare time, she enjoys kayaking and gardening.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Melinda Clark

Melinda Clark is an LMFT that is working toward a PhD in Forensic Psychology through Walden University.

She has a BS in psychology, with an emphasis in counseling and a MS in Marriage and Family Therapy.  She is CASOMB certified.  She has additional training in the DBT therapeutic model.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Julie Raskin-Li

Julie Raskin-Li is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for empowering individuals and couples. Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) in Behavioral Health Leadership, Julie is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

 

Her person-centered approach, combined with interventions from motivational interviewing, cognitive, and somatic therapies, enables her to tailor treatment to her clients' unique needs. Julie has experience working with diverse populations, including the LGBTQA+ community, adolescents, and individuals coping with complex trauma.

 

A dedicated community member, she is an advocate for mental health and supporting others in achieving fulfilling lives.

 

In her free time, Julie enjoys hiking, camping with her dog, and gardening with her cats.

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Kris Mudd, LPCC

Kris Mudd is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor LPCC who serves the community as Training Coordinator for New Beginnings. Kris is currently in the dissertation portion of his PhD in Industrial Organizational Psychology.

 

Kris utilizes the Person-Centered approach, Adlerian therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Reality therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. His experience includes working with all age ranges, families, couples, and individuals along with complex and acute trauma.

 

Kris is passionate about training, supervision, and professional development. Kris believes that one's understanding of their true voice and authentic self will lead to true success and fulfillment.

 

Kris enjoys audiobooks, both fiction, and non-fiction, as well as exercise.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Teri Zanni

Teri Zanni is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Redding CA. 

 

A former educator, Teri utilizes a person-centered approach and interventions from motivational interviewing, cognitive and reality based therapies.

 

Her experience includes work with individuals and communities in case management, coalition building, advocacy, and policy.

 

Teri has worked intensively with elders, unhoused populations, those experiencing substance use disorders, and people experiencing systemic oppression and barriers to growth. 

 

In 2022, she was named Social Worker of the Year by NASW Northern Gateway Unit. 

 

Teri is a  California State University, Chico Graduate with a passion for social justice. 

 

In her spare time she enjoys gardening and community action projects.
